Artist Statement

My still life paintings are the result of both observation and imagination. Influenced by travel, education, and art history, my work reflects my thoughts, dreams, and experience and this is what an artist brings to a painting.

The objects and shapes have a personal meaning or are are result of the painting process as I search for space and unity. I am interested in the shifts that color creates in space and in the fracturing of light on objects.

My work is about paint and the joy I find in the process. If there appears to be a narrative or a message, it is not a conscious intention. The associations that appear are in color and shape and, on a deeper level, perhaps autobiographical, but they are not the initial impulse for the painting.
